DownThemAll: Latest News

Forth Beta – Now with some translations August 29, 2019

Here is the forth beta of The DownThemAll! WebExtension.

It’s likely the last beta release before I unleash a final full release Version onto the masses in a few days.

Among the important changes and bugfixes are:

  • Fix a bug where upon sorting items in the Selection window the selections would get out of sync
  • New Translations: French (fr), Spanish (es), Polish (pl) and German (de). Thanks to our translators!

If you’d like to help by translating DownThemAll! to your language, we have a preliminary Translation Guide.

Thanks to everybody who reported a bug or suggested a feature!

To install, click downthemall-4.0.4b4.xpi

It is signed by mozilla, so the browser will check if the file is valid, but NOT reviewed other than their automatic reviews.

Please do report bugs and feature requests. But please refer to the TODO list before submitting any feature requests to avoid duplicates.

There are admittedly a lot of features missing that the original DownThemAll! had. Some will come back, others will not as the WebExtension system mozilla forced on the world does not allow for a lot of the advanced stuff.

Please note: I did not add a way for it to update itself. So there are future beta versions, you will have to check back here and update yourself. Also note that once I release a final DownThemAll! 4 it will install alongside the beta.

Beta The Third August 27, 2019

Update: Forth Beta

Here is the third beta version of DownThemAll! 4, the WebExtension.

Among the important changes and bugfixes are:

  • Fix OneClick behavior
  • The button is now a popup menu, but can be configured to be OneClick instead
  • All Tabs actions
  • Support for custom translations and live reloading of translations. This will not help most people but will enable people wanting to translate DTA
  • Other minor cleanups and improvements

Thanks to everybody who reported a bug or suggested a feature!

The final release will happen shortly. Probably in a week, depending on the feedback and bugs you report. This is a rather short beta period, but I want to avoid putting off the release for too long (not years again ;-))

2nd WebExtension Beta August 22, 2019

Update: Forth Beta

Users of the first Beta reported an important bug, where DownThemAll! would fail on some websites or worse almost always when having certain third party extensions installed. Thanks to the reporters for their help also in verifying the fix!

DownThemAll! 4.0.1 Beta 1 – The WebExtensioning August 21, 2019

Alright, to those who waited a long long time, let me say sorry. Real life did not allow me to go faster.

But here it is, finally: The first public beta version of DownThemAll! 4, and the first DownThemAll! WebExtension at that, so it will install in current Firefox releases (Chrome is not yet supported).

WebExtension source code August 20, 2019

I’ve just made available the source code to the WebExtension at https://github.com/downthemall/downthemall for those curious and maybe even tech savvy enough to run it straight from the code repository. The code repository also has a Readme and a TODO file detailing what to expect.
It is generally working and functional, but I still need to do some additional testing, especially on Windows and Linux and finish up some rough edges and squash some minor bugs (like the “Invalid Date” in the tooltip in the screenshot below).
So it should be a day or two until I will publish a beta version…
I know the wait feels a bit like Duke Nukem Forever by now…. Sorry for that.
