DownThemAll: DownThemAll! 2.0 Beta 5

DownThemAll! 2.0 beta 5 was released.

It is a preview release of the next major version. There might still be some bugs, but in general this release should be ready for daily use.

This preview release is feature-complete, and the first Beta release to offer more languages than just English.

The XPI is digitally signed by Nils Maier and has a SHA-1 hash of

Additionally a lot of bug fixes were made since beta 4 and first translations were included.

High memory consumption in Windows 7

There were multiple reports that using DownThemAll! causes a high memory consumption in Windows 7. This is caused by a bug in the Windows 7 Filtering Platform (WFP), which some software, especially Anti-Virus tools, uses to filter incoming traffic (for malicious content).

DownThemAll! isn’t actually buggy in this regard, nor does it explicitly trigger this bug. However since DownThemAll! is often used to download large files using multiple connections this windows bug becomes more visible.

Microsoft released a hotfix for this, which we recommend you install if you’re affected by this:
Knowledge Base article with download link.
The bugfix hence is supposed to fix any high memory consumption you may also be experiencing with other download managers or internet tools.
We are not sure if this hotfix is also provided via the Windows Update service.

Thanks to one of our users for pointing this out.
